Why do I feel worse after quitting smoking cigarettes?
I am taking Chantix and stopped smoking 8 days ago. The firs 6 days or so my lungs felt better every day, but yesterday & today it almost feels like it’s hard to breathe. They are clear but don’t feel as fresh as they felt the immediate days after I stopped smoking. Does this go away or did my smoking cause permanent damage? By the way, Chantix is the only thing that ever helped me stop smoking
In your lungs you have little finger like things called cillia. They bring the crap out of your lungs. Everytime you smoke, you destroy those guys. (which is why the best way to calm a smokers cough is to smoke) Now that you’ve quit injuring them, good for you by the way, the cillia are growing back, and are starting to clean up the joint. Their, the cillia’s, first order of business is to get as much of that poison as possible out of your lungs. Don’t start again, let them do their thing. You will be better as time goes by. Hang in there.
